Four years ago, The Treaty of San Maninco was established, and
the 5th Brigade Commandos have been involved heavily in keeping that treaty. There
are currently no men permanently stationed there, but 40 Royal Marines are due
to arrive for general peacekeeping puropses on 21st July.
Commandos train for Jungle warfare in and around Malaysia, practicing
ambushes and assaults. It is important for all Commandos to be able to survive
in the hostile conditions offered by a jungle.

Singapore
Another important role provided by the Commandos is the protection of Singapore,
after the uprisings in 2001. Members of the 5th Commando Brigade are currently
on patrol there and in neighbouring Malaysia.
Operation Desert Whisp, the code name for the invasion of the Puerto Strait
Islands, south of Singapore, was one of the most recent, major operations completed
in a jungle environment. Six hundred commandos were involved in the coalition
invasion, which included troops from France, Germany and the USA.
