The UH-28 Tigerfish Weapons

Twin Hellfire Missiles - [More Pictures]

Night launch of a Hellfire missile

The twin Hellfire missiles are the primary source of fire power for the UH-28 Tigerfish. A hellfire is a 100 lb., semi-active laser guided missile, capable of destroying tanks and military outposts. Because of their power, the Hellfires are normally reserved for only the most major tasks.

Hellfires have a range of 5 to 8 kilometres, and two are fitted in each UH-28 Tigerfish. Additional missiles can be carried, although this severly limits the capacities of the helicopter.

The missiles have built in RADAR guidance and can be destroyed and fired from the cockpit of the Tigerfish. Reloading of the missiles can only be undertaken when the Tigerfish is on the ground.

Single, light 7.65mm cannon - [More Pictures]

Weapons officer in seat of 7.65mm cannon

The light 7.65mm cannon is operated directly from the UH-28 Tigerfish by the Weapons Officer. It is fitted to the side of the helicopter and has a range of around 5 miles.

Up to 1,500 linked rounds can be stored under the crew seats for the weapon, and more can be taken in the cargo bay of the Tigerfish. Because it is in the open air, the gun is only used in dry conditions. Although the weapon can be operated at night, through a HUD, but it is not a very desirable job!
